driving my classic from Melb to Gold Coast - safe park stops
Discussion
Hi anyone got any good advice of places to stop and potentially safely park a classic out of arms way overnight between Melbourne and Gold Coast
Looking to drive my recent rest up in a month or so and looking of places to stay where i can get the car out of sight if possible
Also looking for safe storage in Melbourne , any suggestions for classic car for a few months that don't cost the earth?
Thanks

Hi Symsy, I guess it depends on what sort of classic you are talking about, & it's cruising capabilities.
My son brought the Triumph TR8 with a 4.6L tuned engine, which is a great car, but had a tendency to get a bit hot in heavy traffic, up from Melbourne to Brisbane a while back. He came inland, & reckoned it was great. Good roads, no potholes, [it is a bit stiffly sprung], & little traffic.
He branched off after Albury to Wagga to Cowra, then Dubbo, joining the New England at Tamworth, then down through Beaudesert [or could be Ipswich] to Brisbane. He reckoned it was a great trip. There were areas where he could stretch the legs of the V8 a bit, but still quite civilized.
I've taken the New England a few times recently for trips to Bathurst or Sydney, & enjoyed it. The one time I went the coast road I did not enjoy the trip, & picked up a few stone chips with all the roadwork.
Can't suggest which, but many of the older pubs on the inland route have enclosed courtyards & some garages.
Select a route, & your possible overnight stops, then email each towns tourist promotion outfit, or the council, for recommendations for secure parking. You'll find these places mostly go way beyond the necessary to be helpful.
