Chaps - this has come up and I have a last minute chance to get it for $10,500 - what's the view and I fear it's almost too cheap...

Does seem cheap. But it's only 6/7 years old and 150ks. What could *really* go wrong?

If it's not leaking oil or blowing smoke, it shouldn't be rusty. Maybe just check the suspension etc. over.

I don't really know much about them, most the bits apart from the chassis are totally different to mine.

Only thing I'll say is that the boot is *slightly* smaller than your G6E. Is that big enough?

Thanks Ben.

Your thoughts match mine - lot of car for the money.

This is for me as a runaround so boot space not a consideration.

I'm probably going bangernomics for a year so have a wide spectrum of cars on the radar - this, am viewing a $5k 03 Fairmont later and an $8k 03 Saab 9-3 tomorrow...eclectic mix!

The Saab would bore me.
An 03 car made in Aus, would be a little old school in style and toys I think. Is that the first gen BA?

Better than an AU.

When I was looking at a Calais a few years ago, I noticed the sandy coloured interior ones were not popular or they seemed to be for sale for a lot longer than the grey interior ones. The V has all the extra toys on it, like full leather and the DVD. I am not sure what suspension they have, FE2, FE1.5 or standard. It will say on the placard under the bonnet. You can pick up a used set of FE2 suspension for a few hundred anyway I reckon if it needs replacing. Mentioned elsewhere the parts are cheap for them especially the V6. I am not sure which version of the V6 it has, powerwise or gearbox. 195kw and 5 speed looks like it. I found the steering a lot lighter than my SS ute in the Calais.

Thanks chaps - good insight and appreciated.

After all this not able to view due to various reasons and so will have to tick this one off *sigh*

The BF Fairmont is an early one but budget wise I'm running lean for a few months-year to get life in order before moving back up.

The Saab would be ok but have a fear of expensive issues.

The Fairmont reassures as its pretty basic mechanically and easy to sort if it goes tits up.
