My daughter has recently moved to NSW and Christmas is approaching which leave the dilemma of Christmas presents. My wife wants to give proper gifts but from recent experience sending from the UK is A, expensive and B, hit and miss. Can anyone recommend any online shopping sites in Australia, there doesn't seem to be any Amazon, someone recommended Gumtree but that's all second hand stuff from what I can see.
Any advice would be helpful for sites I can access from the UK or can I just do a search and trust normal shops in Aus for online shopping?

Firstly UPS is both fast and reliable, I sent something on Monday last week that got there on Thursday, which is pretty good.

Buying from Amazon, com is good too, I bought a present for someone in Australia that way and it was paid by me in the UK and delivered from the USA to Sydney a few days later.

I've tried Aussie sites but mainly they expect the cardholder to be in Australia and are generally more expensive than buying from the UK or USA and shipping it.

When we sold , as a business , on amazon , we shipped to Australia on a regular basis . I recall the postage being quite reasonable too

Amazon is your friend.

I'm amazed they haven't launched here yet.

I've tried Amazon.com but they seemed unable to deliver to her address or area for some reason. I hadn't thought of using a proper parcel company, I've only used the PO so far and according to my daughter It's when it gets into the Australian postal system that it all seems to fall down.

Interparcel.com is a good way of shipping things, that pointed me at UPS. But cost wasn't the issue, speed was.

Is she somewhere obscure? Amazon should be fine if it's a normal address.

Not that obscure, a few miles from Gold coast literally just inside NSW.

It might depend on whether it is amazon themselves or a merchant . If it is a merchant , then they each have their own policies as to where they will ship to

Amazon just launched here.

Amazon.com.au

Books only though I think. Could have us actually getting anything else at a reasonable cost now could we..

Large companies usually have very cheap shipping rates they have negotiated. You buying for delivery in Oz should work.

One of my kids regularly gets stuff from Europe/UK, & the US, & pays less including shipping than it would cost you to ship privately.

I recently sent a kilogram of old Triumph bits to Europe for a club member. THe shipping was over A$40.00

My wife has found an online store in Australia this morning. She wants to get stuff like chocolate, perfume and some small items, I believe we wouldn't be able to send food stuffs into Australia so that's one problem sorted. Daughter also wants a decent camera so I was looking at that but they seem quite expensive in Australia so I may have to have a rethink although I did find a camera shop near where she is that does online sales.

One of my daughters recently was given a camera that in Oz was over A$2000. It evidently cost less than A$800 delivered from a USA camera shop.

It was a present, so she doesn't know the details.

She did suggest cameras should only be bought from well known companies. Apparently there is a flourishing trade in dodgy cameras, particularly on the net.
