Water corp have just gone to 2 monthly billing. Had my first couple and all I can say is 'HOW MUCH'?

Just the wife and I, decent sized 4x2 but retic off and $220 for the last 2 months and reckons I've used 28000 litres. It was c.$400 for the one 2 months ago. At this rate i'll be paying circa $1200-1500 per annum.

Is anyone else in WA/Perth getting ridiculously big water bills?

Is $220 for 2 months even viewed as sizeable? It seems a bit much to me. Especiallly when the actual charge component was $40 and the rest is rates and service.

My last one was $396 in August, but I've no idea on how long that covered.

Think it said we were using 1000 litres each a day or something insane.

(4x2, two people, no retic since April)

Just got the rates for the investment property and all I can say is the tenants must be bloody clean nuts

One of the joys of selling off public utilities, when the profits go down because we become more thrifty they jack the prices up to maintain predicted margin growth.

Who votes for phucking politicians who think selling the farm is important anyway furiousfurious

Similar thing happened when Unity took over the running of water services for Sunshine Coast - our old investment property copped a $1200 bill one quarter. Had the place gone over for leaks, but none found. Something to do with one-off charges at the start of their contract. Govt endorsed robbery.

I am on tank water. We have developed a natural behavior which does not waste water, the garden & car washing uses river water, but nothing ridiculous.

With 3 adults, 2 of them ladies with long hair, we use 8000 to 9000 liters a month. If we lived in town, outdoor usage would increase somewhat, but unless I ran a car wash, or gardened an acre or more, I don't think I could use 22000 liters if I tried.

We had 2 consecutive years where we could not have harvested more than 64,000 liters of water PA, with the measured rainfall & the size of our roof. With 3 adults & 3 kids at the time, we got through without having to buy water, although it did get close a couple of times.

With those bills & quoted usage, I would buy a meter of my own, & run my usage through it, as a check on your company.

How much is the service charge?

We're also scummy renters wink so will have just the usage to pay but the wife likes to look after the garden so the retic runs for a total of 4 hours a week!

62 days, 28000 litres (452 a day apparently). $50 of use, $185 in services.

That's the problem - the charge for the water itself isn't much. I now think 'bugger it' and put as many washloads, disherwasher loads on as I need. It doesn't make much difference.

If the water was $185 and service $50 I'd bloody well ration the stuff.

I heard a great interview on the radio the other day from a member of an independent audit body that audits the water charges every 3 years as requested by the govt. They recommended an 8% increase in water charge but 5% decrease in service charges. The govt rejected this and actually put it all up 13%. Aholes.

I'm increasingly despairing of the WA govt.

Time to change your water provider .. oh.

Well at least you can change your electric .. oh.

Least the money will be spent on infrastructure in a growing city and not follies like a big stadium that'll be half full every other week when the Eagles are losing, or a foreshore area that removes a lot of valuable land next to the CBD .. oh.

Calm down Ben, at least we have a well funded education system...oh.

How about a well funded health care system that doesnt bank on an annual telethon to prop up a public hospitals spend requirement...oh.

I think I'll take comfort in daylight savings and being able to shop 7 days a week 24 hours a day...oh

Dammit, guess ill go test drive some cars on Sunday...oh.

hehe

Must be doing something right though as we are all here.

Like this weekend, I'll be sat in my big house, in front of my big TV watching the cricket. Then I'll fill up my big car with cheap petrol and go to a friends place for an Xmas party involving beers, BBQ and a bommie comp in the pool.

Sunday I'll take the dogs to the river, and recover.

The monopolies on internet, water, electric etc are crazy though. "Consumer choice" does not mean a utility buys blocks of consumers wholesale!
The problem is I look at the UK where you have so much choice and it doesn't seem that much cheaper.

But then I rarely look at bills, I just pay them.

I just left the water one out, as I remembered this thread.

$140 for 2 months...something about $40 credit though so it was only $100.

Cost of living may be more here but for me I'm earning 3 times what I was in the UK (As a percentage of monthly outgoings) so I shant complain!

We had a water leak at our last rental which went un-noticed for months, the bill for usage came to over $1000 but the water corp gave the landlord a leak allowance of $400 - Luckily the agent had all the previous bills and only charged as an average, leaving the landlord to pick up the rest.

The competition is largely an illusion since you have no clear way of working out your costs for a different supplier. The methods they bill by are unfathomable.
Totally. Even here when trying to compare Origin with Origin I could not work out the differeces with my bill vs online breakdown. Didn;t matter anyway as when my first bill came through it had changed again and was a totally different breakdown to what I has saw anyway.

I am on strata so the water bill is shared between 24 units. It makes it impossible to save, impossible to detect leaks, impossible to take any control, but my bills are around $800 p.a for a 2 bed unit, one person, with recycled water for garden and toilets.
