I've always fancied visiting Tasmania, and wanted the views of the forum on the suitability of the place for a family holiday (3 kids all under 10!)

Many thanks...

It's nice, not cheap, folk friendly enough. I don't have kids so can't advise on that. What I can advise though:

Good to time it with the Longford Revival Festival and Targa if you can.

If you're traveling from the uk though it seems a hell of a lot of money and time for not much. If I were doing that I'd maybe have 5 days in Tassie and the rest in Aus. A lot of the appeal for me was it had similarities to parts of the uk.

Oh and the unbelievable amount of roadkill will upset the kids.

and scallop pies!!

Great for kids - I have a few Tasmanian friends who go back every year to see family. Their kids love it there. Again its not cheap but still cheaper than Darwin.

I went there with kids under 10 several years ago and made them car sick. I've been back every year since without them. It has the best driving roads in Australia.

Hey I live in Tassie. Great place to come visit and some nice roads especially up the east and west coasts. Both are very different places though. Feel free to ask any queries.

I spent 6 days in a nice camper van with my wife, our 4 year old and a 2 year old kids. We had a ball. We toured up the east coast. People were very friendly, nice roads to drive on and beautiful scenery.

As said before, Tas is beautiful and might remind you of parts of the UK, but it's nearly 24 hours one way in a plane, so maybe you might want to see some more of Australia too. The size of this country still comes as a surprise to many people visiting for the first time, so careful trip planning can be good.
