Just an FYI for anyone planning to fly back to the UK.

Webjet shows everyone from AirChina to Singapore Airlines are pricing at about $1700 return in a bit of a pricing scrap, deals go up to November next year.

Pretty good for OZ, but book direct from the UK and book in advance you can get prices less than this. That's my tip for the day lol...

I believe that you have to book a one way trip though in the first place, then book a return from the UK.... If you are travelling home every year guaranteed thats fine.

Since the Qantas/Emirates tie-up their prices skyrocketed as they no longer competed - and the market was worse for it.

I now originate all flights from the UK, although they're going up now too (having paid $5k last week for 2 x returns)!

So didn't really save anything then??

Seriously, if you know what your doing you can fly return to the UK for less then $2200 in high season (generally 15/20JUN to 14/17AUG), $2-300 less in shoulder seasons and under $1600 in the lowest seasons with the 4/5* carriers, plenty cheaper deals for 3* carriers or long layovers......

Yes, because those are flights just after NYE (i.e. peak travel). I just priced up an equivalent flight (same dates but different directions) and I've saved approx 1/3rd of the price my way.

I've done the flight 7 times in the last year (each direction) so adds up to a fair saving!

Nope, just phone up a UK travel agent and book as you normally would.

What made me laugh last year was trying to get Aus Flightcentre to match UK Flightcentre price for retun to the UK. The UK prioe was $300 cheaper but they would not price match their own company. They also said that I "couldn't book a flight with a UK retailer", which was either niave or just a blatent lie. How do you think people book tickets for friend and family abroad? lol....

Last August I could book a flight to London from Adelaide for $1500 from the UK and the best deal here at the time was $1900. The average UK cost was between $1500-$1750 depending on carrier.

I think in cattle class my bum would have healed over doing that many long haul flights back to the UK. Last year reminded me of how much I hate 20 odd hours in a plane.
