Hi all,

I wanted to introduce myself as I have relocated to Melbourne and am now looking to get back into my Ph'er ways!

I was previously benjc on the forum, but in the move I lost all my logins, so I have started afresh!

Up until now I have not invested in trusty steed as we live in Albert Park and have been reliant on PTV to get us round, and when I have needed to satisfy my PH needs I have rented a GT86 from Budget.

My motoring history consists mainly of turbocharging MX5s, so I am thinking about picking up a MX5 SE (the factory turbocharged version), but am holding back as I am not 100% sold on the idea of a convertible in a climate that will get bd hot in the summer.

Does anyone have any first-hand experiences of the SE? Or crippling sunburn due to a lack of roof?

Also is there are large PH community in Vic? Are there meetups?

Cheers,

Ginb

I live in the Gold Coast hinterland. We don't often get it as hot temperature wise as Melbourne & Adelaide do with a northerly blowing out of the center of Oz, but we do get a bit stronger sun.

I have 3 convertibles, S2k, TR8 & Ford Capri [local 2+2], all air conditioned, & great all year. Topless evening drives in summer are probably the most enjoyable of all.

I do usually wear a light long sleeved shirt & cap for mid day summer motoring, & have no trouble. On only rare occasions do I have the top up for a couple of hours around midday.

You do have to keep your mind in gear. My daughter & a mate borrowed the Capri & went for a day at the Gold coast recently. They spent most of the day cruising, topless in brief bikinis, & the girlfriend got quite sunburnt burnt. When asked why she had not used a sun tan lotion as my daughter did, she said she didn't think you would get burnt while the car was moving.

I think my daughter likes having her around. It makes her seem quite bright.

If you live in Albert Park, get yourself a SAAB or 4X4, otherwise you won't fit in, a Merc, BMW or Audi will see you just accepted. You will need to learn how to park your vehicle like a complete prick and be happy to pay way over the odds for a pretty average coffee.

Place is full of wannabe fannies now (I have continued family dating back well over 100yrs in Albert Park).

If you are really into MX-5's then visit www.mx5vic.org.au

Forget PH meet-ups in Oz, they rarely happen.

I live in Darwin which is the hottest place in Australia. Over the last four years I have run an MGTF and now an aircooled 911 cab, never had an issue and the roof stays down most of the year. Neither has aircon.
Just make sure you change the coolant for decent stuff and it will be fine (obviously not in the 911), Keep suntan lotion handy (when you get stuck in traffic) and enjoy.
