Big changes coming in life so have sold my Falcon. Am gutted as really liked it but needs must. Only took 4 weeks, advertised at $34k, got $32k so quite happy. Cleaned the bloody thing a lot, but it looked amazing and a good ad sealed it and after 4 different viewers/drives 5th guy offered.

So, loved it but depreciation annoyed me and interest charges hammered me so am thinking, for a year or so, of driving something a bit cheaper. No real plan on what to do so might just use the wife's for a few months.

Whatever i get must be an Auto, torquey, rear doors/bit of space, modern, probably not european, not SUV/4x4. Maybe up to $15k, ideally around $10k.

Your thoughts?

For reference a Vectea 3.2 or Mitsi 380 appeals under $10k and up to $15k a Liberty 3.0/GT 04 vintage.

I would suggest that you were in dire need of a red Bentley, and I just happen to know the perfect one for sale, but alas it doesn't meet a few of your criteria... smile

Out of one, into another? 6 speed auto?? according to the blurb.

Also 6 speed but older.

A rare older XR6 with the 6 speed auto

Was going to say a G8 or G220 but they are very hard to find!

Not a WHII but a WK.
http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/details/Holden-S...
Also not a WHII but a newer WK version.
http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Holden-...
WL version this time.
http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/details/Holden-S...
Older WHII shape, think this has a different exhaust on it. Just have to make sure it has the toelinks so it doesn't wear out tyres.

Warning carsales is bad for your wallet!

I was seeing a lot of nice Liberty/Outbacks at about $12k-$15k, even the 3.0H6's which are top engines. Would have been my choice, but her indoors wanted the 4x4.

I know Bibbs hates them though!
Not "them" as such, but "mine" .. MY00 and it was a rattely, juddery, oily old thing. 250k km, plus change.

Felt it'd do another 250k km though. But I'm not sure I could.

Suited us for 6 months though. Kinda glad I don't need a car to commute at the moment.

My friends outback has just suffered head gasket failure, apparently a very common issue on the outbacks due to design fault (looked up on internet). We are struggling to get a quote to fix this side of $4.5k. He has just put in a chemical sealant to stop the leak for now but had just found out that apparently causes other ancillaries to fail so he is getting shot of it. Something to be very wary of if you see a cheap Outback. Its put me off getting one

Love PH - first responses Bentley and pimp Merc!

Must admit euro cars are a bit scary especially when older - I'd be nervy buying a 15 yr old euro in the uk let alone here with no parts...

Good call John on the carsales - been glued myself!

Maximal are ok nice engine and gearbox but a bit old man. Toyota's are the motoring equivalent of having a wk with a condom on - same end result but jeez it's dull.

Luxo barges are my sweet spot...anyone seen the Holden Aventura CX8 with 360RWHP for $14k on caresales?

A friend at work has offered me the use for free of a 98 Saab 93 for4 months so tempted to take the great offer whilst I decide... Want tosee if those seats really are the best wink

Libertys definitely seem like the best bet followed by the XR6. However 2012 Xr6's with all the toys are verrry tempting at a budget push $20k...

did some research on those, and they did not come out shining, sadly. All the ingredients seem right, but they are not good cars apparently:
Horrid gearbox.
Genuinely comical fuel consumption (I know you say you don't care, but really - 20+L/100km?)
Old fashioned 4x4 system, which doesn't do anything well.

I think if you wanted to go down that route you're best off with just a V8 Commodore Wagon. You even see some HSV's for not too much over your budget.
A old manager of mine had one. Hideous car. Crap interior. Crap drive. Crap reliability. Really not good at all.

Guess not the Aventura then!

Yeah 9-5 is ok bit old tho.

The interstate thing is ok but at $15k purchase, by the time it's been shipped and over the pits I'm upto nearer $17-18k..

The trouble with Australian Luxury cars is that they're not really very Luxury. They may have some toys but they've got no road presence, dont have a luxury brand image and dont look very special at all.

I just cant help but look at the big expensive holdens and think a UK Vauxhall Omega Elite would be a lot better at everything without trying to be something it's not. It makes me chuckle seeing Gillard arriving at places in a "luxury" Holden that appears to have been made in 1993 from parts in the GM parts bin. I bet she feels spoilt when she goes overseas and gets a ride in an S Class, A8 or 540L

I'd probably look at something like the below as a toy, take it on a few track days. You wouldn't be the quickest, but it'd be fun.

For proper PH cred if you'd consider a Passat why not go all out and stretch the budget to a W8 4.0 4-Motion one... smile

One in WA for a smidge under $20k, but I'll be betting the seller's negotiable.

Stop all this silly stuff with German cars, they never have liked the sea journey getting here. You know what you really want is a TR7.
