Hi folks,

I need some advice regarding Australian visas for a British passport holder. It's quite a complex issue, so if there are any immigration lawyers out there I'd really appreciate some help.

What type of visa does it relate to?

I have applied for a subclass 402 Occupational trainee visa, but it's not going to be granted in time. I need to find out if I can travel on a tourist visa, providing I am a tourist until my occupational trainee visa is granted. I am quite happy to do some travelling in Australia for 5-6 weeks until this happens, I just don't want to have to move my flights.

Yes you can travel to Aus on a tourist visa BUT you must leave the country and the return on your new visa as its not valid until you do.

I would recommend a weekend in Bali for example- Cheap to get to/ stay and then when you return to Aus you'll validate your new visa.

The only stipulation as far as I am aware is that when you apply for the visa you have to be outside the country (which you have obviously fulfilled).

Speak to the embassy in London and they will pretty much tell you the above but its good to get a name just in case.
