I am considering buying a second hand car at the moment and as there is more chocie of cars over east then i may eell end up buying one over there.

My question is if I buy a second hand car in another state and bring it back to WA is there anymore costs to pay besides rego or do I need to pay a first registration fee for bringing it into WA?

Thanks

people up here tend to buy WA registered cars then never change them- just re-register online. I known people four years since being here and they still have WA plated cars.

As James said, just remember to keep re-registering it and keep it on the origional plates.

Once it expires, that's when you need to do the pits etc.

Right ok thanks.

I have a set of Euro plates that I own that I would like to stick on but if it is easier to keep it on its original home state plates and re-register then I may just choose that option and save the plates for another car.

I bought my Monaro in Sydney as they were cheaper and more to choose from. I tried to transfer it into my name in NSW but you need a NSW licence and address... WA has the highest rate of ripoff money for nothing stamp duty (IIRC I would have save around $1500 if I could have done it in NSW)

I'd be surprised if you get away with keeping an interstate rego, I considered driving mine across (ended up on train for around $1000) and was told as soon as I cross the border it is considered unlicenced, as I am WA resident and not travelling as such.

I thought it was illegal to keep a car registered in another state. When I moved from Queensland to Vic I had to register the car in Vic within 3 months.

Surely if you've bought a car interstate it is impossible to keep it registered, unless you do some sort of dodgy deal with the previous owner?
