Despite the artiocle saying its due for release in July, they're advertising this thing on TV already. Presumably trying to build up "excitement" in the hope of securing a load of orders.

$16k (on the TV Ad) for a brand new Ute does seem pretty cheap, but if its anything like a Great Wall I doubt that its any good - Even if this one has been breathed on by Prodrive!

I have driven a few great walls (rentals through work) and yes - they are that bad!

I had one everytime I went out to remote community in Arnhemland- (4x4 presumed V6) by the time it had 13k the following was wrong with it.

Pulled to the left - literally 90 degrees when letting go of wheel.
Interior was falling apart
stereo didnt work
Couldnt get above 70km
gear were so vague you it was pure luck if you hit 3 or 5 - on top of that the throw was huge. I had to lean right forward to get the odd gears.
everything rattled
boot was stuck shut
temp/ fuel guage didnt work
reversing camera was so white you couldnt see anything
fuel consumption was astronomical - (worse than my mid 90's 4.0 straight six HC Jeep Cherokee XJ)
lights pointed everywhere but the road

now I know some could be said as poor maintenence but on a car only a couple of months old it shouldnt have been an issue.

The hire company now refuse to buy any more Great Walls.

I love the ad along the lines of "what idiot would pay over $30k for a 4x4 UTE".

Erm, the sort of idiot that doesn't want to have to buy another $30k UTE next year, and the year after.

I bought a Hilux, thousands of Taliban can't be wrong.

the kind of idiot that is clever enough to realise only a real idiot would buy a great wall.

Although having driven many 4x4 utes- I have to say I think the Isuzu is even better than the Hi-lux..... apart from the rear view mirror only viewable to the japanese and not someone my size.

The Hilux is one of the most expensive, and has the least amount of toys (when compared to Ford, Holden, Mazda etc).

But the current model is coming up for 8 years old, and it's still the benchmark others are compared to.

My next door neighbour has a Great Wall 2WD petrol ute, & reckons it's great.

I'm sure he is an excellent judge of horse flesh, oops, I mean cars, he was a butcher before he retired.
