put the Porsche and Lotus up for sale- intend to sell one and keep the other so whichever one sells first means I get the leftovers.

I got a call on Monday from someone offering me $10k less than the asking for the Lotus. I said not interested as its a fair price and has an agreed value for the same amount I am asking (both do). He states- I only have X amount. I tell him thats not my issue, I would seriously suggest of he cant afford to buy it he probably cannot afford to run it -he proceeds to being a rude abusive tw*t.

I get an email this morning telling me I am dreaming for the asking price on the 911. I have done my research throughly, contacted the NT Porsche club and spoken to them and priced accordingly. First search on car sales throws up first 2 911 carrera's for almost the same price (within $2k). One has x3 mileage, the other no history. Both also down south where cars are 10% cheaper. I respond pointing this out and also the fact he is a huge d*ck.

rant over- feel better now

Yeah, nah.

But the cars are over-priced, and I don't have that.

An agreed value?

Why doesn't the person who agrees buy it?

insurance agreed value- ie if I drive it into a wall they agree its worth that and will pay me out minus the remainder of the policy and excess. we all know insurance companies are tight as buttholes, they factor in depreciation (in appreciating cars!!!!) of 10% and only value to the southern amount which again is on average 10% less than up here. So obviously in theory they are worth more. There are porkers same as mine ($48k)-many over $50-60k and one for $80k!! a couple of Lotus over $70k and one down south for same price ($38k) minus all the upgrades (about $15-20k worth).

Example - Last year went to the only Ford Dealer in town. Asked to buy a new Fiesta. certainly sir- that will be $24k and only in black. I said not interested in Black - want blue. No worries, delivery 16th of August (it was March). I walked away and rang interstate. Bought the same car including delivery to my door $19k in the colour I wanted, delivery the following week.
18 months later I am going to be selling same car (23,000km), girl at work is interested. I tell her $17.5k - she is amazed how cheap as is everyone in the office. People telling me to charge more??? go to local dealers and only ones similar are around $20k. Girl at work tells me she has just been to see a 2009 toyota corolla base model with over 70k on the clock for the same price.

fecking ridiculous up here for cars

A lot of cars seem to be perpetually for sale at unrealistic prices which might be why potential buyers are also frustrated; it is near on six months since we started looking at moving over and there many many cars still up for sale (in the 7/8 models I search for) that were then. That includes some boggo stuff.

Sensibly priced stuff moves quickly but obviously rarity is still an issue with a lot of the more interesting stuff so you can't blame sellers for pitching prices at what they'd be prepared to sell for rather than the level that is selling.

It's definitely a buyers market and there are a lot of clowns around who just seem to get enjoyment from making people lowball offers. Maybe if they do it often enough they'll find someone desperate to sell and it pays off...

I got so fed up with it when selling my x300 Jag that i eventually just decided not to bother, became worth less to sell at the money I was being offered than just to keep hold of it and enjoy it occasionally. Ended up with a buyer who had already offered me less than I wanted to take came to finalize the deal on the basis of them turning up with cash, not messing around and taking the car then and there. Sure enough when they arrived they started tyre kicking and offering even less, so I told them to F off and get off my driveway. Might have worked on someone who actually cared if it sold or needed the money, so if they try it enough times they might get lucky. Oh, and he was English..

Alas I wouldn't put much stake in an insurance agreed value as giving you any idea on market worth, it's pretty much a case of pick a number and they'll calculate the premium based on it as a known risk rather than actually having much of a connection to the worth of the asset itself.

well to me they are both worth more but I know its only worth what you will sell it for. But ultimately I am in no rush to sell, I am in no need of the cash as the wife and I have very good salaries, I know I have two (in the Northern NT) extremely rare (two other Porsche 911 3.2's - one other Lotus Esprit) and both are high quality cars.

I just want to get another property and cant decide which one to go, when one sells I will buy - if not no worries I will keep using them both. It just seems a waste they are not getting used much.
