Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone can recommend a decent porsche Indy in Sydney, Australia?

I have a friend emigrating from Dubai to Aus in the next few months. She bought a boxster and has been bitten by the Porsche bug.

She is unable to export due to the strict importation laws over there so will be selling her 6 month old car via the OPC network. She's looking for a second hand 911 (997). Many thanks in advance.

Paul,

Here is one I've seen recommended, but I don't have personal experience with them unfortunately.

Question, why is there a problem importing the boxster?

Cheers,

Because by the look of it, reading the OPs post, she has only had it 6 months.

It would be LHD also, which I thought isn't allowed?

Cheers guys. Yes, she hasn't owned it long enough to export it and it being LHD is an issue. I'm also lead to believe the import taxes are horrendous.

That's who came to mind for me. Came v close to buying a car from them in 2011, only my own circumstances stopped me! Their stock does fluctuate though, sometimes they only have a handful of cars, other times they have dozens. Seem to specialise in 911 variants.

Taxes are high, but so are car prices.

I assume your friend knows Porsche prices here already?

Thanks all for the replies; I will pass on the info. I'm not sure if she has any ideas of costs. I think she's after a 997.2 C2S with sports chrono. Any advice on pricing greatly appreciated

Thanks

Paul

I'd budget around $150,000 for that, which is nigh on 100,000 GBP.

An equivalent car in the UK would be under 50,000 GBP.

If she is after a classic 911 aircooled cab I have a peach I am about to sell when my Lotus gets out of the shop this week.

Pearlescent white with red hood and oxblood interior - looks like it rolled out of the factory yesterday. FSH from new, best one I have seen in the flesh (and I looked at loads)

Only thing it needs is a new 'popper' for the tonneu cover.

I forgot to say- I have to actually wash it while wearing sunglasses, It literally is that bright and hurts eyes in the sun.

not by the time you import it and pay taxes, it will close to if not more than 100,000 gbp -if its not on the SEVS list you cant import it for less than 175,000 gbp providing you can get it accepted onto the SEVS list which isnt easy in the first place.

I only gave the UK price for comparison.

you cannot compare the two, due to the Aussies being super protective of their home grown any exotic car costs double here than anywhere else.

I sold my MG I bought for 2250gbp six years ago in the UK for $19,000 here.

I know, but I was trying to demonstrate to the OP that someone coming from the UK (or Dubai) might think they can easily afford a 997.2 C2S when in fact their budget would only buy them a 996 C2 for instance.

Strongly recommend Autohaus Hamilton in Dee Why. They look after my 911 and loads of guys from the Porsche CLub NSW swear by them. Scott runs sales, James parts and Rob service. Really nice guys and they know their Porsches back to front. I wouldn't let anyone else near mine.

Exactly - if anything Porsches are even cheaper in the UAE than in the UK so if she's not looked into it could indeed come as something of a surprise. It did to me!
