I was looking at the import rules and there is no mention of having to own your car for one year before you can import it!

PS. Somebody is negotiating with TVR to import cars directly...

it'll fall on it's arse like last time, not enough people interested in driving them here.

People like them mind, just that would you shell out some serious hard earned for a car that is so far from home with such a small reputation ?

Ferraris and Lambos are bad enough but to go to a TVR requires REAL masochism, a bit like owning a Sbarro or something similar, a real orphan in this neck of the woods.

I've seen a few TVR's around but there seems to be a limited market for them here.

I would have thought TVR is the perfect Australian car!

Especially models like Griffiths and Chimaeras!

I imported a car and if it's under 15 yrs you need to have owned it 12 mths, this is called a personal import. There is a TVR dealer in sydney though and the cost of dealers bringing Euro cars in goes down 5% I believe. Do not expect prices to reflect the UK. They are niche cars and demand decent dollars. My advice is to import if your moving to oz.

Have looked at importing a Porsche from Japan - cheap enough to buy there, but import agents made it difficult. If you've got something in mind, make sure you have it for at least a year.

aren't porsches in Japan LHD? all the ones I've seen are.

I have just started the 'Import Process' for my car. Application goes into Canberra on Monday. I will be importing my 1994 Lotus Esprit from the UK to Adelaide. The application and associated paperwork totals some 50 pages. Under the Personal Import Scheme I have had to prove that I have owned the car for a minimum of twelve months in the UK.

Ive just been looking into this and ive seen a new field open(ing) for import. Im not to sure on the fine details but its at this site http://raws.dotars.gov.au/

It looks like its specific for cars that are not sold here. It also looks like they access each vehicle on its on merits, although it appears that

"Only used vehicle models listed on the Register of Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicles may be imported. If you wish to import a SEVS vehicle you will need to contact a Registered Automotive Workshop (RAW)."

What are the import rules for importing a car as a 'company car'. Im sure the rules would be different and perhaps you dont have to own it for 12 months...
Also has anyone gone through a customs broker to import a car? perhaps they have better luck getting them in.

any one have any idea since i was considering importing a car.
