Just realised there's a public holiday coming up on Monday 28th Jan.
What's the usual score with it - are shops etc all shut up and everyone goes to the beach/BBQs?
Approved! There are fireworks displays around the country and various other activities around the place. Even the country towns have fireworks displays too. What's the usual score with it - are shops etc all shut up and everyone goes to the beach/BBQs?
Monday is not Australia Day, Saturday is. I expect Monday will just be like any other public holiday. Saturday will be the celebrations.

CARnivale sounds good, anyone fancy meeting up for a beer/look around?
I don't plan on going but might end up doing so, in which case I'll post here. Colonial, The Passenger & I had an excellent day at this a couple of years back before they moved to the bush. However, the museum had a one-day-only offer of $5 entry per person to everything, so I ended up taking the kids on the lighthouse and onto HMAS Vampire as well. Oh, and playing on the kids water park. And it was hot, and they were tired, and so was I after being there for about 4 hours! Wanted to go onto HMAS Onslow (the sub) but it was closed for the day.
Cracking day, followed it up with a birthday barbecue in the rain on Sunday...
