Apologies for lusting after a big yankee stty plastics heap of awesomeness. As life moves towards PG jr's it seems de rigeur suv is required. If you're going to do it you might as well have a 6.4l V8 Hemi with 470 bhp and 0-100 in 4.7 all for $80k. A lot but a bargain.
I am shameful yet there is so much want.

Haven't you seen the series of adds, about the wife who surprises her husband, by announcing she has bought herself a Jeep?
Best car adds since the original "Oh what a feeling" Toyota adds, but more fun.
Whoosh parrot this way...Best car adds since the original "Oh what a feeling" Toyota adds, but more fun.
I wouldn't mind if she bought one of these. If it was a Wrangler I'd worry she'd turned.
Not a Land Cruiser? They seem to be a lot more popular over here and I guess the servicing costs etc. will be a lot more reasonable as a result.
I have a Mazda 6 Estate and have already found the pitfalls of owning a Japanese car in WA when it comes to spare parts! I dont think you'd ever have trouble with a Land Cruiser as there are hundreds of thousands of them around the place.

Bloke at work has a 2008 Prado. He reckons it just cost him $2400 for the 4 yr standard service - cant quite work out if it's BS or not.I have a Mazda 6 Estate and have already found the pitfalls of owning a Japanese car in WA when it comes to spare parts! We're on a tight budget, we'll be saving hard for a few months to scrape together the money for anything. A Pajero gets you a "true" 4x4 with lots of value for money. Land Cruisers are a bit big really, a bit thirsty, a bit too expensive to buy, and whilst a Prado would fit the bill if we find one in budget you just seem to get less for your money with them. If you take a headcount there are actually loads of Pajeros about too, they just blend in and look like "another" 4x4.I have a Mazda 6 Estate and have already found the pitfalls of owning a Japanese car in WA when it comes to spare parts! You'd think getting sapres for Jap cars would be fine?! One wonders what cars there ARE abundant spare parts for? Commodores and Falcons at a guess.
Without wanting to sound too dull and sensible, if you're on a tight budget why not buy a cheap Falcon/Commodore whilst you save and then get a decent 4x4 after a few months?
There are hundreds of respectable cars for under $10k but the same cant really be said for 4x4s
We were amazed at the rate with which we burned our savings upon arrival. We bought second hand everything from Gumtree and still spent a fortune! Then theres the one-off costs that seem to happen quite regularly for Vehicle transfer fee ($600+) car rego ($600) speeding fines ($150) massive electricity bill (due January).
The Commonwealth Bank online banking screen shows a neat little graph of money in/out in the last 30 days. Try as a might to get the green "in" bar longer than the red "out" bar, its always a struggle to make any convincing gains.
Having said that we've now furnished the house and got all the big things we need so I'm confident of turning things around in the next 2-3 months.
