I've been using Strong VPN to watch Uk content but as happened with my last provider the service has now become intolerable. I've just spent a couple of hours with their tech support (which is great) but having tried all their UK servers none of them give enough speed to watch Uk content without it pausing every 10 seconds.

So does anyone have a genuinely good VPN service provider they can recommend for UK content? I don't mind paying for a decent one.

Cheers
Matt

I used it a few times in Australia when we first arrived and the lame ISP in the holiday accommodation wouldn't allow me to send emails on my own mail server back in the UK. rolleyes

Its worth a try as they offer a monthly payment system so you can pay for just a month and see how it goes.

However, when I tried, it wasnt fast enough to use the BBC iPlayer. This is probably down to the generally poor quality of Aussie internet connections though. Most people do well to get 3mb broadband here.

Yep agree the internet connections are generally poor but I get between 10-15mb where I am so speed is not an issue my end. It's the quality of the connection between the VPN companies server and here that's rubbish. To give you an idea, Strong VPN have servers in all the major cities in the US and the UK, I speed tested about 10 of them and none could get me close to 1mb (which is what's needed for reliable iPlayer viewing) and most were around 200k, that's almost as cr*p as old ISDN speeds from 15 years ago!

From the Middle East, on my 1mb connection (crap local internet) I could occasionally stream iPlayer.

Best thing to do I found is to use the series record button, and let run in the background.

Unfortunately the F1 and most of the rugby is not available for download so has to be streamed.

Still looking for any suggestions, the ones mentioned so far won't stream iPlayer content.

Not a tech person, but is VPN different to using a proxy?

I use ukproxy.tv for SkyGo (rugby) and iplayer. Even works with SkyGo app on my iPhone (4g connection is watchable).

VPN is a secure tunnel. Proxy is like 'bouncing' to appear you're somewhere else.

Mattt, I've been down this road. PM me...
