I've been in Perth 2 months now, SWMBO is arriving in 2 weeks and I've sorted a Commodore SV6 for a few days when she gets here.

We'll need a car reasonably soon, but longer term I've got my eye on an Impreza of some description.

So, I see my choices are buy a shed for a $2k-ish and run that for 6-8 months until I've got the cash to buy something, or head up to Victoria Park and have a word with John Hughes and get something half-decent on finance for a while and then see about the Impreza 12-18 months down the line.

Something about buying an old Commodore with the 5.0 V8 and running around in that for the summer seems pretty appealing at the moment!

Toyota are offering very good finance terms for new car purchases if you fancy going down that road. Alternatively see if novated leasing is an option through your employer and you'll save on tax.

Keeping a 5.0 V8 on the road will not be a cheap exercise with fuel prices being what they are.

Meh. I have a V8 and a V6 and hardly notice fuel prices. Folk coming from the UK will think nothing of the fuel prices.

OP, I'm a big advocate of the $2-3k bargain jap V6, but can completely understand your landing and wanting something with a bit more emotion/rumble.

Cheers for the feedback - just trying to sound out what is a decent option. I've seen Glenn McGrath pushing the Toyota deals, Mitsubishi had some good finance deals on too. I'd be a bit reluctant to tie myself in to a long term finance deal, I'll have to take a look at the options.

The cost of fuel isn't an issue, the car will only be a weekend toy and the cost of fuel is a lot less compared to the UK - hence the thinking of getting something which would never be feasible in the UK.

Cheers
