Been using Skype to communicate with friends / family for about 6 years, so quite familiar with what is 'normal' performance.

Since moving to Sydney, the thing is bloody awful. Dropping out at peak times, picture sometimes pixellated, sound delays and echoes.. generally "pants".

I believe I've found the solution for Skyping "back home" at normal Skype quality... a VPN connection. (ie. it creates a tunnel and your internet presence pops out in the UK)

I've tested this for two weeks now, with and without and this is certainly the answer that works for me. Total reliability and greatly increased picture and sound quality. I'm using https://vpnuk.info after finding another wasn't giving the throughput.

Hope this helps someone else with the same frustrations. I'm dead chuffed to have found this!

I live opposite a major exchange which helps with internet but frankly I always suffer on Skype so will definitely try this.

I also have the problem when I play a bit online, if I fall into a UK server I get behemoth Lag and it's not worth playing.

So thanks for the heads up will try!

I used to use My-Private-Network from the Middle East, slightly cheaper at 5GBP/month.

Every little helps wink

MPN is a proper outfit too, and you get a choice of country for your VPN so you can choose the US for instance to use Hula and Netflix etc.
