Can anyone recommend a speed camera/radar/laser detector for use in WA?
I say for use in WA because I believe diffent speed traps are used in different states in Australia. The detectors from the UK seem a lot cheaper than the Aussie ones but does anyone know if they work here?
I'm after a portable unit that can be transferred between my cars and possibly my bike.

Any advice would be welcome.

Prepare to have your balls cut off if caught with one anywhere in Oz frown

According to www.radarsdirect.com.au radar detectors are still legal to own and use in WA (not sure about the other states).
I think the jammers are illegal which is why they are often advertised as front parking sensors.

I just wondered which was the best, there seem to be quite a few different types available. The Multinova seems to be the weapon of choice for speed enforcement over here but ideally I'd like something that can detect traffic cars, hand held laser etc as well.

I'd just like to add that I don't speed as a general rule, certainly not in any built up areas but the speed enforcement is ridiculous over here now. Road safety is non existent. You can tailgate, change lanes without indicating, pull in front of people while braking, drive with unroadworthy cars but if you go 5kph over the speed limit while passing a hidden camera on a straight stretch of road you 'will' be fined.

Whistler Pro 78 was the detector I used in WA ( they are legal there). The range is up to 1.5km ( verified when driving up Brand Highway). Keep it on city mode around town, otherwise you'll get a lot of nuisance alerts. It picks up Laser radar also, but by the time it alerts you, you'll have been caught...so works with laser if the car in front of you gets pinged and the signal bounces.

Good timing as was looking at this myself. Used to think they were only good for beeping every 2 mins and when going past automatic doors but was in a taxi on Saturday and his went off twice, both 100m before each Multinova (now called Poliscan) and worked well saving him $150.

My limited research shows the Escort Passports to be good for WA but most modern should be good.

Look at http://www.delonixradar.com.au/western-australia/

On a side noted i got a $75/0 point fine for doing 107 on the freeway 2 weeks ago - so 64mph on a motorway and a £50 fine - fking joke. That's 4 in a year which at $300 would have paid for a detector. Wish I'd bought one sooner.

Really? As recently as 26th June this year the WA Govt confirmed they wouldn't be re-opening the debate on making radar detectors illegal. Surprisingly the WA govt has regularily stood against making these devices illegal, different reasons each time. The current thinking is that their are other mobile devices (GPS, Mobile phone apps etc) that can do the same thing, so why go through the process of making the radar detector illegal.
Unless Hansar is wrong, I believe they are still legal.

As I am soon to be residing in Queensland are there;

1. Any worthwhile Speed trap & fixed camera detectors worth bringing or ones that can be bought in Oz?

Make & Models please.

I am heading via the states so can buy there stuff if better than Uk based stuff.

2. I presume they are not legal in Queensland?

Whats the penalties IF caught with one.

Thanks
