My OH is Aussie and tells me I should get a dashmat, however Im not sure if it's needed unless you keep your car a long time as any cracking will not appear for a long time.

What's the common view?

They're foul.

A bit like car bras. They prevent possible ageing effects making your car look worn by skipping worn-looking and proceeding straight to ugly.

I have never used a dash mat in Oz and never had a cracked dash issue, my 20 yr old 3000GT has an as new dash and was a daily driver. In the summer I always carried a beach towel which I would throw over the dash and steering wheel when car was parked in the sun.

When I think of dash mats I think of like circa early 80s Falcons or Commordores, probably with large woolly steering wheel cover too.

Better off spraying on a decent UV reflective plastic treatment/protector I think, dashmats are fugly.

I also don't get the huge wooly sheepskin seat covers, yick.

I think she is taking the pish.

I'm an Aussie. Only retired accountants have them. They are not needed. Never get one. If you do, just leave.

I think it must be an old school Aussie thing where every car dash will warp and only buy a white car as anything else is death by heat.

My cars black with black leather so hot but no more noticeable than a red or blue car.

On the sheepskin front I saw a newish BentleyCGT with them - $250k+ with the finest bovines covered by a fking sheep. Astounding

sheepskins are a bit 80s, I remember my dad having them on his XJS back in the day.
