About to order some tyres from Tirerack in the US and currently have Dunlop Sport Maxx but found for a good price Continental Extreme Contact DWS tyres - seem to review well and wear well - has anyone on here used them?

Yeah they are. Work load and procrastination has meant I haven't got it dealt with.

As much as I want grip and top handling I need low wear rate and quietness and these seem to come out well and for c.$220 each

Does the S of DWS not stand for snow? I would have thought you wouldn't need that in oz much. Maybe the other Continentals mentioned on there would be better?
A fellow at work has put Michelin Pilot Super Sports, I think it was, on his Audi S5 that he bought from tirerack and is happy with them.
I have 245 40 19 tyres on my SS V ute...Think that is a slightly different size to the Ford. I put Toyo Proxes T1 Sports on the Ute about 7000kms ago and I am very happy with them. They were about $390 each locally, a lot cheaper than the Bridgestones RE050A it came with which are around $700 each.(Good tyres though)

Cheers for the suggestions. Yes the S is for Snow but it was the wear factor that made it worthwhile as I'm doing 25k KM's a year and don't fancy running through 2 sets of tyres!

It seems the DWS are good for wear and noise but will look at the others? The tyre stores here are quoting $600 for Toyos but will try a few more as by the time I've shipped tyres from US and paid to have them fitted and mine got rid think I'm upto about 320 each.

$600 sounds like a lot. Tyrepower seem to push Toyo over here so maybe give them a try for a price.
Can you get the Michelins I mentioned over there as they have very deep tread for what they are?

Yes I thought they were pricey!

The place I'm looing at is www.tirerack.com who have everything but the Michelins come in over the magic $1k mark that seems to be the tax and duty imposition mark.

Will give Tyrepower a call as the Toyos could be a winner if the price comes in at around $1300 here in oz as that's what I think the total will be by the time I've shipped, fitted and disposed using the US route.

It's so frustrating to see the same tyre you get here for 1/3rd of the price in the US.

I have realised that as mumsnet as it sounds I need slow wear and low noise as much as, or if not more, than grip. Spending most of my life on a freeway and not wanting a new set every 6 months drives that.

Right then, after much complacency and busy-ness at work still not bought any tyres for the car.

All local quotes are coming in at at least $1600 incl.fitting for budgets.

Tirerack have the same tyre as currently on my car (dunlop sportmaxx) for $158 each or all 4 shipped for $1000. Only issue is that they were made in 2008.

Do I buy them or not? The ones on my car now were made in 2009 so figure it's not that bad and also I'll get about 18 months out of them at the most.

6 years seem to be when most should be changed from whit I can see.

Your thoughts?

I have these on my 318is (UK).

WHAT A TYRE! It'll kill any other tyre in the UK market, hands down.
I have soooo much confidence in the wet or dry or snow... it's just such an amazing all round tyre.

But some bad news for UK residents, stupid UK laws now require certification of tyres, so TireRack will not sell this to me anymore.
I think this law is beyond stupid, I mean I'm far safer with the DWS's than any other tyre available in the UK, so it's pointless.

I contacted Conti and they were like "it might not be right for the UK". What! Utter rubbish, shocking that Conti don't know their own products.

I recently replaced the Bridgestones on the Honda S2k with new.

They had only done a little over 4000Km, but were almost 6 years old, & an experience a while back with aged, low mileage, tyres made me nervous of these.

The choice of tyres is already getting limited in 16"s, so I fitted Bridgestone RE002.

I did not expect to actually feel any difference, & don't really in the dry, but have been surprised at the improvement in the wet. This makes me really pleased I did it.

Did you consider the Conti DW rather than the DWS... also has a high wear rating and quite a good review on tirerack but is a summer tyre with good wet weather manners. I am considering them for my Maserati based on the same qualities that you're after. They also come in under the $1000 mark.
