Just wondering if anyone can recommend an affordable car insurance company, new to OZ and have been getting some high quotes online or co that will not quote at all including my current insurer.
Got 12 yrs NCB and car is an 2001 Impreza not a lambo, living in a decent Suburb of Perth.

Thanks

Take it you are on a British license?

Ive used AAMI since I arrived in 2006.
No problems with UK licence at the start and because of age, rated 1 as well.

Same here - used AAMI a lot, and have made claims. Good service all round, though not necessarily the cheapest. Using Bingle for one car at the mo, which is much cheaper and are owned by AAMI, though not had to make a claim...

My first quote, back in 2003, from CGU or NRMA or similar disregarded the fact that I'd been driving for 15 years at that time and only counted driving experience in Australia. Of which I had 4 months. Needless to say, I didn't use them.

Bingle.com.au backed by AAMI for everyday car insurance. They don't care about NCB or anything like that. Insurance is based the car, driver age, points/claims, address and how long have you been driving. They are cheapest by far for me.

No experience with AAMI, but those in the industry (brokers) tell me that it is one of the ones to avoid.

Any reason why?

Only our experience but the OH had a car written off in the Perth hail storms - AAMI were great - very clear comms, paid without quibble and quickly.

Got both cars with them now and no problems.

Perhaps they don't pays commissions to brokers?...

I switched all the cars but the classics to Youi insurance this year, as they were quite a bit cheaper on all but the lady's Mazda 2.

What were they like to get the quote? All we've had over here is them telling us the get us and ask loads of questions to give the quote. When I got a quote for the OHs lancer they asked half the usual questions and came in 40% more.

No choice of repairer and second hand parts.

Learn something every day. Thankfully both cars under new car warranty so new only with AAMI, however that's not good. Do any other insurers do this?

Oh dear thats not good to hear.

Ive had 2 claims with them on my Satria GTi, both rear end shunts with 1 my fault, but both appeared to be repaired OK.

Yes, I did see much of the advertising blurb in the fact. Not too much interested in how the cars were used, but the quotes were the best I got, except for my 20 year old daughter. Just were the best for her car, & Shannons the classics.

My UK insurance is up for renewal just before I leave the UK and assuming nothing goes wrong between now and then I'll have managed 15 years without a claim. Is it worth getting proof of UK NCB and bringing it with me? or is it not worth the paper it's written on in Oz ?

Yeah just bring recent renewal letter think most companies take it as proof.

I've got ours with Lumley Special Vehicles except for the classics which are with RACV on their classic policy as it's a blinder of a deal for rarely used classics on club plates ($75 per year for my S1 Jag XJ6 inc roadside assist cover).

Shannons have been getting complacent and expensive recently, re-quoted with them a couple of weeks ago, paying ~$3500 for the 5 other cars on a combined stable policy through Lumley, Shannons wanted $6k. I laughed at them quite heartily down the phone.

Yep, a very good friend of mine is a broker and says the same. All's fine until claim time apparently, though some as above have had good experiences. My recommendation would always be to go with a trusted broker.

I'm amazed you need that, I've never been asked for proof. If you go with a broker you definitely wouldn't.

Via my broker I pay $226 TPO on my Toyota and $600 FC on my 928.

Lumley are a fantastic insurer, I was insured with them when my car was damaged by hail a couple of years back, the service, turnaround etc were peerless. I heard of others waiting months, they were happy to pay for the car to be fixed by a more expensive repairer, just to get it fixed for me.
