Socialist how very dare you...
What do you want to know? the truth about here or the fenced in little picture about the place? Its no nirvana over here, but it does have a lot going for it if you can take a step back from being english and embrace the way of life here. That being a lack of history, open racism and brain dead politics.

Bearing in mind I'm coming from the Middle East, I expect it to be comparative Nirvana (or at least no worse). Lack of history - check, Camels to Cadillacs in 20 years.
Open Racism - check, bordering on slavery sometimes.
Brain Dead Politics - check, I shall not comment further as my communications are being monitored.
Over on PIO, it's just the same posts every day, with people not being bothered to do their own research and just ask 'I want to come to Oz, tell me everything about everything'.
That and in the 'general chat' section they all seem to blame bankers for causing the UK's budget deficit, and believe that you should not associate with people who break the speed limit.
I'm just an old cynic mate. But I see this country as it is. There are some awesome points about living here but IMHO you have to shut out the crushingly reality that it's at the arse end of planet earth and is culturally vacant in an English sense of heritage. But on the other hand if you can handle the god awful telly and obsession with crap sports then it has a lot to offer. I jest. On the whole it's a decent life here thankfully free of a lot of the social problems that blight the UK.
It's fair to say that without the pomsinoz forum we would have wasted money on a visa agent rather than doing it ourselves. We have also found a good shipping company through them so its not all bad.
This will make me sound like a right middle class snob but that forum seems to be frequented mainly by brick layers and plasterers who are to stupid to use the search feature, expect the streets of Perth to be paved with gold and are mostly too dumb to pass the IELTS English exam having spent 6 weeks revising for it.
Apparently something like 20% of those who go to Oz come home after a few years and I bet most of them were active members on there.

Ironically the clue is in the title - Poms in Oz - in other words people who will always be a Pom and never become kind of Aussie so will never fully detach from 'home' and therefore never settle here.
I also think that negativity breeds negativity so if you're down about being here, lots of others vocalising how much they hate it is only going to reaffirm the sense that it's st here.
I would also say that a lot of people move back due to unhappy wife/gf and when they're bored in the burbs at home all day on the net they're going to find it hard to find positivity.

I got some good info on there but there is also a lot of people posting utter rubbish of which they don't know or have heard somewhere and repeat as gospel....eg....
"If you don't drown everything you own in Jeyes fluid it will be destroyed at your cost...guaranteed"
"Always tell the complete truth about everything and never EVER lie/bend the truth otherwise the telepathic govt will send you back at the border"
"You definitely cannot bring over anything new in your container (like a toaster) otherwise you'll pay tax on it, you have to kick it round the garden first or else they'll burn all your stuff"
And lots of things starting with "Well I never saw this but I heard....[put ridiculous scenario here]. Good luck!"
Oh and my absolute all time favourite situations of "Unless you get 2.2 times your salary in AUD to GBP you will starve to death and have to eat your children to survive..."
All total crap. Some useful info but like all unconfirmed internet speak....pinch of salt required.
What I don't get is why people then hang around on Poms in Oz long after they arrive?! And serial posters who have been on the cusp of moving for 25 years but not quite managed it....mentals.

To be fair the only thing I can really moan about here is the fact I have had to lower my car expectations. If I were to mention that on PIO however I would be savaged for wanting something punchy to drive...."Oh but its just a car....save the planet...".
Not that I would know but I put this in teh same bracket as Netmums.whinge.....
Having said that I am still enjoying my little MX-5...
When's the next Sydney meet?! I wanna come!
My wife was on this site a bit first few weeks we got back, we ended up taking a family out on my boat.
But here's the way it works for us Aussies:
We invite you to something, you reciprocate eg with BBQ or like!
They haven't so despite dropping a few hints and outright asking about us taking them (and their UK buddies!) out on the boat again. I've told my wife they can "p$ss off"
Oh, they also annoyed me cos it's standard practice to put your hand in your pocket and get a shout at the bar, coffee or at least offer to chip in for fuel. Gotta say this may not be cos they are from the UK, they just may be some duds though..
