Any ideas which cars, besides 20yr old Landcruisers, suffer from the least depreciation?

In the uk it was way easier to decipher but here it seems harder to work out due to large gaps between trade in/resale costs.

Any 20 yr old car pretty much gone thru its depreciation cycle, choose the right car and it might even start to appreciate after 20yrs. Cars in Oz do not depreciate as quicly as UK, furthermore I have noticed milage on sports cars does not put buyers off as much as it does in UK.

Of newer cars I spose the least depreciating are niche cars like Falcon FTP or Cobra's, Porsche GT3, GT2, last of the Monaro's, EVO's.

When I did this exercise, about 18 months ago, it seemed to me that Subarus did pretty well.

So much so, that an ex-demo Forester cost me about the same as buying a 1 year old car would have cost.

Time of year makes a difference to. Until March or so, dealers seem very keen to shift previous year stock, if they have any hanging around. That means if you are lucky you can beat depreciation by buying a car where the dealer has taken some of the knock.

More importantly, depreciation is only an issue if you are planning to sell in a short time.

Did the same exercise about 5 years ago. 18-24 month old Forester X was about $28K, bought a new one for $30k. Might only be worth $16-18k now, but no intention of selling it. In fact, ever, if Mrs PB has anything to do with it.

As an everyday car, Subarus seem to hold their value well.
