Hi all,

Been putting this off for ages, but this year looks like I finally need to go home for a few weeks.

I have a simple question, is there any legal reason not to book a ticket in the UK for the trip, as the prices are so cheap at home compared to here adn I think I could save a minimum of $500. Is there a reason Australia to UK and back is 50-100% more than UK to here? Or is it down to extremely hight airport taxes or something?

Maybe peak and off peak times? Looking at it, if they were the same price as say 18 months ago they would be similar but I can't work them out either, Oz should be less or UK more! London Olympics may also be a factor if you are going near that time.

I can book the same planes on the same days ( eg flying out of oz as part of a return flight or returning to the uk as part of a return flight) and the costs are still at least 50% more on the same carriers on the same planes.

Will make a few calls to the Uk and see what is possible re booking in UK with Oz credit card.

I was told at the Flight Centre here in UK that they could book me tickets from Australia to UK return. When in Australia I have tried booking online but the sites all take you back to the Oz based sites and Ox prices.

The large price difference is probably to do with the much larger market in the UK I spose.

i found a similar thing, i guess its down to how most things are more expensive in australia.

However, not always listed on comparison site (theyre on sta travel, dunno about other ones) royal brunei are usually cheaper than most by a fair whack. Best service i've had on a plane, decent IFE, good legroom, sligtly longer journey than with most (3 flights, melbourne/brisbane to brunei, on to dubai before heathrow) with a short amount of leg stretch time inbetween.

I just came to Australia with Royal Brunei and they were brilliant. Very cheap and no complaints what so ever.

Australians are ripped off when it comes to airfares to the UK, a flight UK to Australia return can be half the price of Australia to UK return. But it's not where you buy the flights that matters, it's where the flight originates, so if you are physically in Australia it's hard to fight it.

cheaper with jetstar (who dont seem to show up on the comparison sites) to nz/bali/singapore/hawaii/japan then onto the uk? I know jetstar to hawaii then a north american airline is the cheapest way my friends (and possibly me in the future) manage getting to canada and back.
