Anyone know if there are any track days where you can hire a car in the Sydney area? Have seen this with Caterhams back home....would be looking to share a car with a mate and get out on the track....

i looked into it last year, couldnt find much. theres drive days with V8Rage and stuff but you only get 6 or so laps in a flacador for $350 couldnt find much else.

i did a day with palmer sports in the UK - $1100AU for approx 70laps, 7 different cars, instructors, brekfast, lunch, dinner, video and data at the beadford aero drome which is the same place that EVO mag use for testing a lot of the cars, so you can get a feel for how fast some of the cars that they test might actually go. or in my case how slow a road car actually is.

heaps of punters have put there vids up on U tube if you want to have a look at what you get up to. Come to think of it, its probably the best place to look to see who is offering what in Australia as well

Tom, im hoping to get started on a small single seater later this year. been colecting parts for the last 2 years when funds allow.

Bike engine (150 - 200BHP) approx 300-400KG weigh should be easily acheivable, slick tyres are not that expensive providing you dont go for stupid sizes, add is some wings and tunnels and its should be capable of pulling in excess of 2G, hopefully closer to 3G.

so far i have uprights, hubs, driveshafts, diff, springs, dampers, steering wheel and coloumns, rack, pedals and i think im in it for $1500Au or there abouts.

still to get
wheels -$800
tyres - looking at Formula ford rubber from USA
brakes - $400 (its only a 300kg car)
belts ($250)
engine ?
suspension bearings $400

so a total $5000 should be doable

add in trailer reg of $40 per year and a few track days or hillclimbs and it doesent shoud to bad to me.

check out the social climber project at race mag
