I know that this is a question regarding roads but I thought that it would be better placed in the Australian forum rather than the roads forum.

I have recently moved to Perth and I am thinking of hiring a car next weekend. Does anyone know or can anyone recommend any decent driving roads within a reasonable distance from Perth?

Zig Zag...it's a long way down if you fall off and fking up the hairpins will see you in a mess with an immovable rock. Great road.

Mundaring Weir Rd.

Toodyay and Chittering is where most of the Targa West rally stages are, look at past events to figure out which ones.

Remember Australia Day is double demerits due to it being a public holiday. Police will be out in force and show no mercy. Not sure if Friday is double demerits.

The local wildlife tends to be at its most active early morning and as the sun is going down when it is cooler. Kangaroos are the biggest hazard.

ZigZag is a really short road if you're going out for a drive from the city, so hardly worth it on its own! And a lot of the roads around Mundaring have 60 limits frown
Try this:
Perth - Bullsbrook - Chittering Valley Rd - Julimar Rd - Toodyay (Stop for coffee) - Toodyay Rd - O'Brien Road (Awesome!) -Toodyay Rd - Perth
About 200km.
O'Brien Rd is the road Peter Brock died on, some really great corners and a couple of hairpins.
Julimar Rd is the one (I think) that the mechanic in the Lambo got nicked on and the owner got his car impounded!
