Shipping a car to Sydney questions
Discussion
Hello,
I have done some searching on here about people shipping cars over to Aus. We are moving over there in the next 12-18 months and I am thinking about importing a car. Has anyone shipped a car over in a container along with other home items eg, Bed, chairs etc?
Also around the NSW area. Is there many BMW service garages around? If I need to import parts for the car is this an easy process?
Cheers!

Yep, I moved back from England in July bringing my '64 Lincoln Continental and a houseload of furniture with me! It was all pretty easy for me, but my car's pre-'89 so it didn't need all the compliance bks that newer cars need. Most of that stuff appears to be pretty easy - it's a revenue raising exercise more then anything else ($500 Aus to 'steamclean' the underside of my car - i got it back looking exactly like I put it in the container... it's Customs though, can't really argue with them). You just need to get an accurate quote that will factor all of this stuff in before you do your sums etc.
As far as shipping companies go I can recommend Crown. They were great - very efficient and everything arrived in one piece and on time. A massive bonus with using them is that they are responsible for all aspects of the move - on both sides of the trip. A lot of other companies will sub-contract the Aussie end of proceedings to the lowest bidder. So if anything goes wrong you're not dealing with the original company - which can lead to problems...
Well worth it though!

Another vote for Crown here. Although organised as part of my relocation so i can't give you an idea of costs.
Re the Beemer, there are plenty of dealerships around so should not be too much of a problem getting bits but as a personal import I might consider bringing in something more exotic given an opportunity. See the multitude of thread on the Aussie forum and www.carsales.com.au for an idea of prices.

I wrote some blurb on this a while back, I reckon a few of us have done it and we've all found improvements but start here:

We used PSS for our household goods and http://www.karmanshipping.co.uk/aboutks.html for my Porsche. Both were faultless.I have done some searching on here about people shipping cars over to Aus.
