Hi all,

Just returned from a trip to NZ where I picked up a copy of 'Australian Muscle Car' magazine. In it I found a review for these guys, who operate out of Sydney and Melbourne.

http://www.musclecarexperience.com.au/

I'm planning a trip to Australia next year (May specifically, so any pointers on the weather also appreciated!) and I'm seriously tempted by the full fat $600 Bathurst package.

Has anyone done this before? Personally a day driving cars I couldn't possibly ever hope to own is worth $600 to me, but I'm wondering if anyone on here has any personal experience.

Ta! smile

I don't know anything about that operation, however I raced at Bathurst for quite a few years, driving some fairly quick stuff.

For just a few laps of Bathurst, in anything even reasonably quick, [a good stock sports car, or a V8 HSV or Ford performance thing etc] it would be worth every penny of that.

I have raced at many tracks, but have found nothing like Bathurst. The feeling of a car gaining & loosing grip, as it swoops up & down over the undulations across the top of the mountain, while cornering at 100 MPH is something every enthusiast driver should experience at least once in their life.

Any where else it should be fun, at Bathurst it will be incredible.

May is good weather through out most of Oz, & the perfect time on the great barrier reef. I suggest you try the Whitsunday Islands area, but then, I used to run tourist boats there, so I would wouldn't I.

It is not actually driving Bathurst, that is just the name of the top package you can buy.

Never heard of them before but reading the website I am not really drawn in. I would want to hear from someone that has done it and see what pace you take in the country, knowing the road rules in that state though I expect sedate and very sedate.

It can be done, there was a 4 day track days at Mt. Panorama last week. Lots of privately owned hot stuff there, from Italian pony cars to local HSV - FPV. All race prepped and CAMS approved.
Fair few dallars involved if you want to drive that scene.
Mate of mine was there in his XR8 BA Falcon Ute 600hp on E85.

Running Bathurst in one a' these is a gut shoving experience.

Otherwise....... you are allowed to dive around the circuit at 60kmph...... it is a public road.
I drove it a number of times in NSW Police Interceptors in the ol' days, (GT Falcon & E38 - E49 Chargers)..... in those cars it was a terrifying experience.

I took a very stock Triumph TR7 to a Morgan Owners club reunion at Bathurst a few years back. It was my first time back after racing years ago.

The circuit is much changed, wider & faster in many places, but with the chase, which is much slower than TV would suggest, & so much more safety fencing.

Driving around at the legal 60Km/H the climbs appeared much steeper than I remembered. At racing speeds the little TR7 would made the climb from the top of mountain straight up to the cutting OK, but at 60Km/H I had so go back to third to make it. Just doesn't feel like Bathurst, struggling up the hill in 3Rd gear.

Still worth a look if ever you're in the area.
