X living in Oz funds the purchase of a high end UK motor here in the UK, for Y who is entitled to bring one into Oz after 12months ownership in the Uk.

On arrival Y sells the car to X for a pre agreed price.

Suppose this has never happened?

If it did work out potentially a win win for X&Y?

A year is a long time plus it has to be continuous plus you would have to wait abbout 3 months on top of this...

Sounds like a pain in the backside.

First thing to keep in mind is that you can only bring a car out as a personal import if you can demonstrate your intent to move here permanently.

Second thing to remember is that you can now only do one car in a five year period. If you intend on moving / yo-yoing over the next few years dont blow your one in five year go at this!

A year is a bloody long time to trust someone with your money. You are not likely to get a year of free thrashing around in a decent car either; If someone was looking to buy a brand new car then they are only going to allow you enough miles to take it for a service every few months and they are going to want it stored correctly and delivered as it rolled off the showroom floor. If it is an older car then it is likely available here or available through established import channels anyway.
