Living with Left Hand Drive
Discussion
I have recently spied a lovely car - and shock-horror its reasonably priced.
obviously the reason is that its a left hooker..
so, if anyone has experience of a LHD car in Perth, can you answer some of these questions?
are there any extra hoops to jump through when it goes over the pits?
insurance, is this more?
I dont expect other drivers will be more considerate - so I wont go there..
and do you know? suddenly i see very few downsides.. what am i missing?
(apart from a nervous wife on the wrong side of the road!)
thanks.

I have a lifetime of LHD experience, but not in Perth.
Please clear something up for me,....i thought it was illeagal to have LHD in Austrailia? I've seen and heard all these stories of cars coming in from the States and getting chopped up, chain steering, ect..
But big picture, your sitting two feet to the left, big deal. Drive up windows are out maybe, unless you have a passenger, but again,.....big deal.

Except WA which has much more friendly rules. In all other states (I think) LHD only if the car is more than 25 years old.OP, can't answer your legislation questions sorry, but I like the idea of LHD, I like the additional thought that goes into driving. Just remember to keep something in the passenger door pocket to get out when you try to get in the wrong side

I have noticed a shift lately in importers starting to take a little move away from Jap imports over to American stuff.
Sucks to be anywhere but WA, compliance and LHD coversion on a new Camaro or Mustang is $25K!!

There are more options than personal import to bring it.

Yes moving out on a skilled independant Visa.
Hoping to bring a Porsche & Range Rover with me which I believe uses my & wifes maximum 1 car allowance each.
The cost of converting to Right Hand Drive & agro put me off bringing the F150 Supercharged, although they seem to cost big money out there.
Quite fancy a 4x4 Ford Raptor when out there - any ideas how much they are if available there?

Ah yes, I like the look of them too but then I like those old Land-Rover baby truck things too!Saw a Raptor on carsales a few months back for $150k
One of the F-series truck importers had them on their website but I can't remember the website now.
Not clued up on my US Fords....Do they come in Diesel?
