I have recently been looking at the possibility of moving abroad and Australia is one of the destinations that I am considering. Having done a bit of research I was shocked to see how expensive cars are out there. My question is if I advertised my car on OZ eBay do you think that I would get much interest and would it be possible to export to Australia to sell to an Australian?

Thanks in advance

Normal import rules would apply to bringing a car here.

As for how well it would sell...depends on the car.

If you have owned the car for 12mths then you can bring the car into Oz as a personal import and not have to pay duty, the import duty makes our cars very expensive compared to UK. My suggestion would be to purchase a nice high end Porsche, ie 997 GT3 or GT2, such a car would be quite valuable and sought after in the Oz market, however remember UK cars would probably carry a discount of 20% compared to Oz delivered ones. You might even look at something classic as then you will not have any depreciation to worry about, however it may take longer to sell.

I plan to take something nice back to Oz when I eventually return, looking at comparable values some cars are like double the value in Oz.

What is the situation if I just wanted to advertise it for sell in OZ from here and export it over there to someone to buy from me. Is this possible? I understand that my car will be worth slightly less value as an export but even with this taken into account my car is still a lot more expensive over there. Just in Cade your wondering the car in question is an W211 E55.

Not that model of car. It is not eligible for import in to Australia.

If the car was pre-1989 you could do it.

If the car was listed under the RAWS / SEVS scheme you could send it through that network but the car is not eligible for it.

If you had got yourself a visa to live here or are a citizen you could fly out and import it under the personal import scheme. You would be free to sell it once it is here and registered. You need to have owned it for more than 12 months for this.
