Can someone please give me a rough estimate of the total cost (including import duties, etc) of shipping a car to Oz? I need to know if it will be worthwhile.

For valuation purposes, the car is a BMW 320iSE auto (2002), 89k miles on the clock. UK value about £3k.

Once the car is in Oz, I assume it can be used there permanently with no particular conversions required? What is BMW servicing like in Sydney - quality and cost?

Thanks in advance for all input! smile

robm3 has put some costs here

7805 has the best thread here from 2008 but the costs will give you a ballpark idea ($16k for an Elise and about the same for my Tuscan).

I don't know whether it would be worth importing from a financial point of view, depends on how much you are attached to the car.

Argo, I don't think your current car would make much sense. Too many fixed costs to make it worthwhile.
But if I could do it again it would be a Porsche 996/997, they seem to have the highest UK/Aus price ratio.

This, no point of shipping on such a car, just sell it and buy here. Any price differential between the two countries will be eaten up by the costs. FYI - I have a E46 320i (update) as second car here and its worth about $20k

Thanks for all the input guys - much appreciated. smile

I agree - it doesn't really make any financial sense for my car, and as I don't really have
any sentimental attachment to it, not really worthwhile.
