There seems to be loads of professional detailers and wannabe weekend Waxers on this section of PH. How about creating a thread thats pure inspiration for everyone else?

I love detailing my cars. I have no fun ones at the moment, but I have the challenge of a lifetime on my hands this week as I try to rejuvinate four five year old 200,000 mile minicabs into something presentable hehe

I will post up pictures and techniques in this thread if anyone wants to see. I will be using Autosmart products as I used these back in the day as a car valeter and I'm comfortable with them.

I also have a trade account now bounce

Bring on the polishing porn

Great idea,

However for me I wouldn't want to be seen as grabbing free advertising since I'm a business, plus although I do post on some forums I also don't like to be seen as for want of a better word whoring myself to try and gain work or raise public awareness of my business, rather I would prefer to gain it via word of mouth/recommendations

If that makes sense, but if asked and its ok with members and management I'm happy to do some show off's

Yep agreed. Would be great to post some pics but might be seen as advertising...

I have to agree with Gary on this one, people who pay to advertise may not take to kindly to people posting pics which are clearly ads for their business!

Aww, go on! I want to see your work! And PH is just a modern form of word of mouth is it not?!? I want to see the results of new products, new techniques etc

If you get someone asking to talk shop then good luck to you and why not. I see it as no different from one of you pro's tuning up to a county pub in your gleaming prode and joy, enthusiats wander over to admire, conversations starts, much nodding of approval all round, business cards handed to those who ask.. Is that not the way of the world?

I know what you are saying however in my views that is blatant advertsing and something I'm not willing to do. I know that there are some on here who do it, thats their call, I guess if they are quiet they need to generate interest some how.

My work is easy to find, other than this I'd much rather have owners post up their cars if work is done by me, although I have asked a few not to as again I don't want to be seen as getting free advertising.

Sorry but thats just how I prefer to work.

Right.

Started the first peugeot today. God it's minging. I've soaked the wheels in Autosmart AliShine all afternoon and then used a paintbrush to work the majority loose (These alloys haven't been cleaned in 2 years).

A quick rinse and they are at least part way done for the main task tomorrow.

I've vacuumed the whole interior, again untouched for two years. We've got split carpets in there, old food and what I can only describe as a Godzilla sized spunk stain on the back seat hehe

I can only presume this was vomit that wasn't cleaned up properly... Nice eh? hehe

I've filled Henry the Hoover up three times on this car already. But at least I'm now clear for shampooing and wetvac tomorrow.

Tomorrows course of action will be as follows:
1). Pressure wash exterior bodywork and wheel wells. Apply Traffic Film Remover to entire body, Door Shuts, Wheel wells and under bonnet area.
2). Pressure wash again.
3). Soap Door shuts and bodywork. Rinse and repeat.
4). Rinse thoroughly and chamois dry paintwork.
5). Thoroughly clean all interior plastic surfaces using Autoglym interior shampoo with hot water, and leather dry.
6). Shampoo interior headlining. (Light low foam shampoo - Very little water)
7). Shampoo seats and carpets. Leave windows open to aid drying.

8). Clean stickers and squashed insects / tar etc from glass with a razor blade and apply Autosmart Glass-Glow. Leaving a thin paste to be polished off in final buff (inside and out).
9). Use Autosmart Cut-Back to renovate paintwork. The car is a dark metallic red that has extensive Scratching and swirl marks. Some of these are deep but I am confident that this will have a significant impact on the final look of the paint.
10. I will wax with a polymer polish called Autosmart Platinum. I haven't used this before but have heard good things about it's ease of use.
11. Final buff and then dress exterior plastics with Mer Plastic renovator.

That should be it. I will post up pics and a report of how things go.

You won't believe how minging the car is... wait and seehehe

Interesting, three detailers have managed to advertise on this thread by claiming not to want to advertise!

Perhaps if they REALLY didn't want to advertise they should have posted anonymously. Or take their business details out of their profiles. Or just put some pictures up and stop pretending to be coy?

Ha ha, yes. Good shout!

This thread has been a non starter really. I will have pics up as soon as poss. Trouble is, I finish the cars as it gets dark, and then send them straight out on the road! laugh

I'm afraid earning a crust comes as a higher priority than entertaining you lot

Paul I tend to stick with the Menzerna ceramiclear line, I have PO85RD3.02, PO85RD3.01, PO85RD3, PO106FF and PO85RD, the RD3's have a real cut to them and to be honest, I don't tend to need to go to these on many cars now, the 106FF has a good cut and because it is a finishing polish leaves an amazing gloss so this is sometimes good as a one polish job. The PO85RD is the lightest duty polish in the range and leaves an amazing gloss, it works a treat on softer paints.

I primarily use these polishes with my Metabo rotary and Meguiars Cutting, Polishing and Finishing pads.

I do have a Porter Cable for plastics and tricky areas.

Thanks.

Do you think you would get as good a result using the pc with those polishes? I know they are highly rated by many detailing forum users for their user friendliness but I cant make up my mind whether to take that plunge. I'm not going to risk a rotary!

You will get good results with the PC and these polishes for sure.

They will take longer to break down than with a rotary, but work very well indeed.
