Very nice. Detailing silver cars is funny; because defects don't show up very obviously there's less of a satisfaction stepping back at the end of the day once it's perfected

Mind if i ask what work was carried out?

Hi Graeme, yes the work carried out was to wash the car thouroughly, then klay all its paintwork, cleanse the paintwork and finally add 2 coats of Zymol vintage wax.

Is "Detailing" the same as wash n' wax? in the same way a "Designer sandwich bar" is to a Butty shop????

LOL no...

Wash & Wax = exactly that...

Detailing = renovation and protection of the paint surfaces to remove scratches / swirls / staines / etc...

e.g. wash your car then go and park it under a street light at night... if your car hasnt been detailed you will see scratches / swirls / etc - it this you can see in direct sunlight and what causes paintwork to go 'dull'

Hi all,
one of my friends has just bought a secondhand bmw and just like mine it has loads of swirls/scratches all over. Is the best way to remove these with a porter cable or is there a better way???
thanks guys.

Hi Padi, yes the best way is with a machine polisher but it is not as easy as that, there are many typres of polisher, types of heads, types of product and many types of application.
Due to the above you need to be careful.
I would suggest practice makes perfect, give it a go on an old panel from a scrap yard.
Drop me a line if you would like a few pointers.

Crass in the extreme! nono

Anyway...I agree with the earlier poster. Silver is, firstly, quite a difficult to get the best out of and secondly even more difficult I have found to convey the results of your labours across in photographs. These are only best appreciated in the flesh.

I can see from your photos Glyn that you have undoubtedly done a superb job on that car!...even though it's not obvious from those pics! Good work indeed!

Here's a slideshow of my Arctic Silver 1998 840Ci Sport which was the last silver car I detailed...again the final result is difficult to convey in photographs (second car down on this page):

There is a picture of a black door pannel that shows the difference between a wash and wax and detailing (one half was wash and wax the other half was detailed)
I do remember seeing something like this a while back, but to see the differnce is amazing
