Matt Black ??

My XR2i is in need of paint after some body repairs, it is currently red but after spending a fortune on mot stuff i was thinking of doing it matt black !
What do you think and whats the best way to go about this ? p.s it would have to be spray cans..

aside for the aesthetics of matt black, spray cans are very expensive, you can rent a compressor and spray gun for far less and do a much better job

I sprayed a capri satin matt black with those 500ml Spectra cans, years ago, took 12 cans to do the car. I didnt bother with primer, i just killed the shine with a scotchbrite(kitchen scourer green thing), rubbed of the loose paint on the rust bubbles, tapped up a few holes with canvas duck tape (the old style stuff, not the shiny one of today) then sprayed the car. I painted the wheels with yellow smooth hamerite and dropped a 270bhp Specialised Engines injection lump!!

yeh satin black could be good, i have been hearing the matt is hard to keep cleen ect?
think im gonna do a few test patches and see whats best...Also the car has white wheels so was thinking of doing something white maybee the inserts in the bumpers and doors?

Not white!!! it'll look like a Zebra!!LOL, Bright yellow wheels on a black car look good in my opinion, colour scheme inspired by some pics I saw of some bubble arched MK1 escorts being raced in period , Black with yellow spoked minilites, I just loved the colour scheme!!

You cant see by the pics, but it had seriously sorted suspension, brakes and tyres (yoko A008As originally) and went like hell, the exhaust was a dig at my old neigbours sad git of a son, 1.0 Nova with a waste paper basket hanging out the back, this thing yowled like a banshee with the hump!!!

along with new bb bonnet and smooth boot he has.
still unsure on wheels ect but just need to decide now satin or matt?

The exhaust was a peter lloyd 2 litre system, with a home made y piece at the front and peter lloyd tubular manifolds, the tail pipe came from Neil at caprisport, it was around 5 inches in diameter, rolled stainless. I just lopped the tail pipe off the rear "cherry bomb" and welded that on, it howled like a banshee!!! glad I didnt live next door to me!!

The Lotus is going well thanks, Grp repairs to the front all done, roof and back end next
