I arrived back at my belowed car last thursday after work having parked it in my usual spot on a quiet side road not far from Temple Meads station in Bristol. To my horror some brainless little scroat had decided that he'd derive an enormous ammount of pleasure by dragging the tip of his permanent marker (which he just so happened to have on his person) down the entire length of the passenger side of my car.

I think that most of would perhaps join me in joyfully explaining what I'd have liked to have done to this person should I have been fortunate enough to get my hands on him, if not, then I question why you are on the PistonHeads site in the first place. However, I shall save my efforts for looking for a miracle solution to remove said pen mark.

I have reservations about using white spirit as I dont know what it would do to my paintwork, however, if anyone out there can share with me how to remove this horrid mark then I would be most grateful.

Many thanks,

Ryan

I haven't tried it myself, but I understand that running another permanent marker over the top followed by a cloth will make the ink wet again and it can be wiped off.

Alternatively someone a lot more knowledgeable will tell you what solvent to use...hehe

try a non permanent marker over the top and wiping off, or meths, if used very carefully and rinsed effectively meths should not affect paintwork. Will need to polish afterwards though.

Cellulose thinners or acetone will remove Sharpie-type markers, and won't hurt modern factory finishes.

use meths, white spirit or petrol (dont soak the paint in them though) they will not harm the paint, DO NOT USE THINNERS!!!!

if they don't work try a little autoglym polish you shouldnt need rubbing compound.

White board marker/non-permanent marker over the top. Had to do this last night, worked a treat (again...)

Guys - thanks for your ideas/suggestions! I have to admit that my Dad had a bash with the good old white spirit which, along with a bit of elbow grease, did work well. I also tried the suggestion of trying some other marker pen on top of the existing pen mark which I have to say worked better!

Many many thanks!
