I’ve been to look at an 09 plate C63. Car looks great has solid service history but then I spot what looks like a small amount of bubbling above the wheel arch.

Is this rust that’s been painted over or something else or just par for the course on a 15 year old car?

It looks like someone has taken a touch up stick to a chip that has started to turn, probably caused when a bag or something similar was put on the back seat.

Not unlike the repairs you see on the outside of door skins where someone hasn’t been careful with a wall or such,

Depending on how soon it was covered up, it could never change or start showing through within a year.

I would definitely call something like that age related, on a 15 year old car.

Its definitely got something in there, tree root style corrosion creeping in... however it's a high impact area, be it getting scuffed when getting in and out or picking up stone chips. Hard to say if it's been overpainted, though the finish on the arch line to the LHS looks a wee bit iffy? A bit dry looking? Images never tell the full story and can hide a multitude of sins... you'd need eyes on it and if you want to get anal, then a paint depth gauge to check if there's fresh paint on panels. But it's an 09 plate Merc, only you'll know if you could live with it / the price is reflective of the overall condition.

Looks to me like an area that has been touched in, rather than corrosion under factory paint.

Put it this way, you're not going to have to be cutting that panel out and welding in fresh metal any time soon.

Keep it well waxed and it won't get any worse.

Or if it bothers you, a small localised repair, would not cost the earth.

Touched up stone chip or similar nothing to worry about. You'll not find many 15 year old cars without a few blemishes.

As above it looks like chips which have been touched in to my eyes.
