I polish my cars every spring and autumn, using Autoglym super resin polish.

Never had a brand new car until May this year. Just wondering how long lasting is the protection applied at the factory and if polishing now would be beneficial or detrimental?

I think I know the answer really, but trying to get out of a job.

Why do you feel the need to polish it?
I wouldnt bother, just keep up with your wash routine and add some protection to it.
Super resin is a good cleanser polish but has no protection so needs topping.
If you do want to do it anyway it wont really bother anything, the products they use are generally junk.

It's a brand new car so shouldn't need polishing. If you use Autoglym products, give it a coat of their extra gloss protection and keep with your normal washing routine.

They do

When ever I get a brand new car first thing I do is have it down the detailers for a polish and then protection, you'll be amazed how bad cars are when they arrive at the dealers.

I no longer bother with polishing/waxing.
A decent DIY applied ceramic coating does the same job to clean paint but in minutes.

I applied a ceramic coating to the cab of my brand new truck back in April which took about 20 minutes, the paintwork is still silky smooth to run your fingers over and dirt doesn't stick to it to the same degree as untreated vehicles, its washed at least twice a week sometimes up to 4 times depending on weather using decent quality commercial TFR, the coated paintwork seldom needs agitation due to the treatment its mainly windows and lower bodywork that get agitation and heavy cleaning (food tanker, cleanliness and appearance essential), if i get a dry day when back on shift i'll refresh the coating for the winter.

Was using Car Plan No1 Super Gloss, but have moved on to Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions after reading comparison tests, apart from the few Gucci makes out there whatever you buy works out cheap as chips because you use so little.

Thanks for the helpful replies gents, I'm glad I posted.

I've found beeding lasts the six months between polishing, but appears an annual polish is more than sufficient. Going to apply some Extra Gloss Protection, as recommended.

Id probably go for their rapid ceramic spray these days, EGP is ok but i think there are much better products out there.

Couple of points, if you are using some sort of wax for extra protection, ensure you are using products don't over time strip it too quickly, use PH neutral shampoos/snow foam etc.

I have recently come across graphene spray sealants, which according to some can last beyond 6-7 months and fairly easy to apply. Have only applied mine in the recent weeks, so want to see how it lasts across winter. The other alterative is a ceramic coating.
