Sanding Discs or Flap Disc

HI all. Got to cut out a piece of rotten sill and weld a patch on.

Got an angle grinder but haven't used it for sanding before. Got to sand the paint around the area to clean it up.

Do I buy a rubber backing pad and some aluminium oxide sanding discs or a flap disc. What do you guys use?

Use something like this...

It's amazingly easy to remove a lot of metal with other abrasives.
