Satin Chassis Black Recommendations Please
Discussion
Hope this is the right place. My 2016 MX5 , which I have recently bought. I am just trying to preserve it a little. Its not showing anything other than a few subframe weld rust spots coming through and a few welded brackets . So, I have rust treated them and now want to paint it satin black to be OEM. I am looking to brush than spray , so I dont cover the bits I dont need to paint. But would like a recommendation for some paint . Looked at Frosts but the top coat POR 15 is gloss. Their own chassis paint is 'semi gloss' . Is that classified as satin ?. Any recommendations would be great.
Use something like this, it's a very good paint.

You should really consider a wax treatment to stop the corrosion before it starts but that's up to you.

I know this is a spray but I have used this in the past and it was very good.

All underbody rust prevention and fettling work is hateful at the time but worth every minute.
You've done a sterling job there, well done.
Time now for some Bilt Hamber cavity waxing?
Its all been Bilted inside and out. Should have put a mask on as felt rough afterwards................. stupid man...........You've done a sterling job there, well done.

Have you painted over the nuts & bolt threads etc?
I did , but the MX5 you dont need to remove bolts, as such for geo, you undo the nut a half turn, then adjust the geo with the bolt the other side and tighten again. My theory was a bit of paint is easier to get off and than a glut of rust inside the nut. . I wont need anything undoing in my ownership as only 20 k miles, so bushes are all good.Justin S said:

Tell me about it.Still eons better than faffing about heating waxoyl and the ensuing mess, found the best plan with that stuff was to tip the first batch over your head because over the course of a full application you and everything else would be plastered with it anyway.

It looks a bit wobbly on the paint in the picture, as the Bilt is setting and looks much better now although still a bit sticky. Heading to a local car meet tomorrow, so hope I dont clean the roads of dust and take it home......................
