Hi I am going to attempt refurbishing my white 18 inch alloy wheels.I will be doing them one at a time off the car there is no major damage just a few scratches and kerbing (small sections around the wheel), I have done a bit of research on procedure and preparation However I am not to sure when it comes to the priming and painting as to how much of the area I should do ….The reason being that it’s only small areas and the rest of the alloy is fine or do I do the full wheel ie prime and paint all of it …Any advise would be appreciated thanks

Unless doing just a simple touch up of a scratch I'd say you'd need to paint the entire wheel so that the paint matches.

It is possible to do spray touch up repairs on alloys, but best done with small sprayguns or airbrushes as aerosols generally lack the small area control.

really, it depends how good you want it to look, and how long you want the finish to last.

i've resprayed wheels by doing nothing more than giving them a quick wash, and then having at it with a can of gloss black spray paint. achieved a perfectly acceptable finish considering they were track wheels, and were destined to be caked in brake dust anyways.

if you do it properly, a good finish is probably 90% prep work (filling, sanding, masking, priming, sanding again, and so on) and 10% actual painting. i go the other way, if i refurb a wheel, it'll be 10% prep (a quick wash) then get to painting. but i've always been more for function over form.

Hi, i am going to have a go and do the prep work, more of a small project to give me something to do.
I purchased a good as new alloy wheel from ebay(that does not need any work on it ) so my intentions are to fit a new TPMS and tyre on it and then one by one do each wheel in my own time so i can still use the car..The wheels are white Turbo fan 18 inch and i have found the colour code and a company that sells the primer /base and laquer for £24 delivered ...

Im not being funny but buying a spare wheel, fitting a tyre and TPMS, you are halfway there to a good refurb.

I paid something like £66 quid a wheel for a full refurb a couple of years ago.
