Painting door without removing mirror?
Discussion
I'm guessing I know the answer, but is it possible to repaint a door without removing the mirror? The door has a light scratch which I unfortunately can't now 'unsee'. To remove the mirror is a real pain on this car and I just know the door trim is going to creak or rattle after it's all put back together (from experience with other cars I've had worked on!). Could it be painted up to the swage line below the mirror as an option?
Yep, we do it on a regular basis.

Basically key the panel up to the swage but not over it.
Mask a hard line about 5mm above the swage, then put your transition tape so the central adhesive bit is on the swage.
Clear up to and over your masking, then immediately whip the transition tape off and use a fade out thinner up to your hard edge to melt your clear edge.
Once it's fully dry quick mop along the swage and you're done.
I'll try and find a pic to explain if you want.
