Please help! Potential write off?
Discussion
Please can anyone advise how likely it is that my car is written off?
It’s a hybrid Toyota Yaris design 2021 plate. It’s on finance, which ends in June 2024. I wanted to buy it at the end of my finance term.
My car was parked in the driveway when my brother in law stupidly reversed into it. I drove it home from theirs and it was running fine, although he did also hit the wheel and scratch my allow. The drivers side door does not open fully now, as it gets caught because of where he hit it. I’ve had to go through insurance, as he doesn’t have the money to pay for the repairs.
My insurance (First Insurance) have recorded it as non fault on my part. His insurance (Hastings) have contacted me and said they want to send someone out to look at it and have said they will pay for my repairs, as he has admitted fault. I am not sure whether to go through my insurers or his, as mine will just charge it to his anyway.
However, my insurers have said that they will send a Copart engineer to look at it. The lady over the phone mentioned it being a potential write off because of the door, but I just don’t see how it can’t be fixed considering they haven’t even seen it yet, and it still drives, and it was an expensive (in my eyes) car, which still holds a lot of value. I’ve seen terrible reviews about Copart online and can’t quite understand why a salvage company that sell used cars would be coming to look at it, as surely they’re more likely to write it off as they then get the car to sell. Please can anyone offer any advice, as I’m so stressed and confused and have no idea what to do.
It won’t let me upload images as I’m a new member - I’m hoping after I post this it will allow me to.

"It still drives" isn't really very relevant.
I wrote off a car last year. It still drove - onto and off the recovery truck. It was still a write off, and it was worth a fair bit more than your car.
But unless he was reversing at very high speed, I'd be surprised if he's written it off.
