Ceramic Coating
Discussion
Has anyone applied a ceramic coating DIY, i want to do my car but not sure which coating to get.
I want something that is easy to use and includes the applicators etc, also want a ceramic coating not the hybrid ceramic spray as i understand they are more of a top up.
What do people recommend that's easy to use and can be applied outside

I expect you will get a million answers on this. I did some research for a planned new car (GR Yaris) and arrived at CQUARTZ UK 3.0 as it's designed for UK conditions, and seemed a good balance of ease of use, durability etc.
I've only tested it on a bonnet so far and it seems to have been fairly effective but the polishing was most of the reason for the improvement on my black car.
However I applied 2 coats and really want to apply a third. I have a good well lit garage though so am not subject to the UK weather. Something to consider.

Ask a hundred people this question and you will get a hundred responses.I want something that is easy to use and includes the applicators etc, also want a ceramic coating not the hybrid ceramic spray as i understand they are more of a top up.

I have used waxes and sealants for many years with differing results, some professionally applied and some done by myself.
Unless the instructions specifically recommend multiple layers then you are simply going to waste product by adding more layers, I generally top a sealant with a wax, no real need to, does not add more protection but just because I like the process and I believe that as good as ceramic sealants are, a good wax will always add a little something to the finish
Recently tried a Diamond Protech (Body 36) kit, applied to an 18 year old Volvo V70 and V8 Vantage.
After full machine polishing polishing obviously I found application and removal incredibly straightforward, no need for special precautions in terms of cure times / temps etc. Water behaviour on both cars is very good and will be using remainder of kit on my soon to be delivered a110 - I am very impressed with it

Yup my concern is I will be applying it outdoors so want something that’s convenient to be applied outdoors.
I just like the idea of applying something that helps keep the car cleaner.
I'd say that it's a hard requirement to apply them in doors (so they don't pick up contamination) and allow them to sit and dry for a few days.I just like the idea of applying something that helps keep the car cleaner.

Absolutely not in most cases nowadays although there are still some that do - usually products that need professional application. Many require a few hours but the most recent stuff is much quicker to cure - Diamond Ptotech Body 36 just needs an hour

I used to detail cars professionally for a living some years ago, but got out of it just before ceramic coatings were starting to make an appearance.
A good pal of mine still has his own 10 year + detailing business and he recommended my some Gyeon Q2 CanCoat Evo when I wanted an easy to use, home applied coating for my car last year.
You don’t HAVE to machine polish your car prior to application, I wasn’t concerned about correcting the paintwork on mine, I just wanted a coating on the paint and glass to protect it through the winter.
The only process I did was give it a good wash, a thorough wipe down with their paintwork prep solution, then applied the coating itself. All done on my drive in a couple of hours.
That was back in late September last year, and I was massively surprised to see some beading and sheeting when I washed the car at the weekend.

One of the first instructions for Diamond Ptotech Body 36 is to apply in an enclosed area. It also sounds like a bunch of bullst - "nano diamond".Many require a few hours but the most recent stuff is much quicker to cure - Diamond Ptotech Body 36 just needs an hour

You need to apply and cure in an enclosed area, otherwise you are simply welding contaminants to your paint. Can can really, really fk up your paint by doing it out doors.
I’ve used Gyeon Q2 One Evo on both of my cars.
Both of which were done outdoors, and the instructions include a section on outdoor application

My understanding was that the spray on ones are tops ups and you need to have a ceramic base coat for them first. Maybe I’ve misunderstood
Some are both toppers and standalone. You wont go far wrong with gyeon products but the better ones do need curing time.
Fusso coat wax is said to be durable for up to 12 months if you wanted something easy to use.
