Rogue PPF installer
Discussion
Recently purchased a new car I intend to keep for some time. I can be a little bit of a perfectionist so decided I would get PPF (front bumper/bonnet) installed for the first time on a car - I’ve fitted it to bikes in the past.
I found a local installer, he is a few miles up the road and was very reasonably priced - in hindsight probably too cheap, but he’s literally 2 miles from my house.
On collection he noted it was a fiddly job as the templates were not available for my car (I wished he had flagged this to start with), a few days later I notice it’s peeling in a number of areas. I try contacting the installer a number of times (phone and WhatsApp) with no response.. Thankfully they have a sister alloy refurb firm (I think run by the guy’s dad) around the corner, so I call them to flag the issue. The owner was apologetic and said he would sort it out, a few hours later I receive a text and we arrange a time for him to rectify the issue. He now has the templates so it should be more straightforward (wishful thinking)….. a month later I’ve got fresh PPF, and a couple a weeks later it’s starting to peel in various areas. Now it seems like another merry goose chase to get hold of the installer - I’m likely to drive over and speak to him in person if he doesn’t respond tomorrow..
I was hoping some of the good members here could validate my options below and provide some feedback/advice.
- Ask him to rectify the issue again (I have little faith)
- Ask for a partial refund (the bonnet is fine)
- Cut my losses and spend some wedge at with a well reviewed installer (this guy had positive reviews on Google so they clearly don’t mean much)
In terms of what action to take if he doesn’t want to play ball, I guess the good old fashioned name and shame online + Google reviews is an option (hopefully it will prevent the same thing happening to others). I also thought trading standards could be an option if things really turn sour.
Thanks.

Most PPF eventually peels especially if you leave your car in direct sunlight!
"Most"?I know many owners who've had PPF on for years without that happening - including myself (and my car lives outside)
As long as edges are fully allowed to dry out before being heated and sealed there wouldn’t be any issues.

What make of PPF did he use?
What’s the make model and year of the car?
Profilm. They seem like a genuine company and not based too far away, I will contact/pay them to sort out this mess. What’s the make model and year of the car?
Never had this before, feels like the guy has just robbed me.
