Hi, I bought a car from the dealer and when I put my private plate on I noticed an issue. The garage added new plates and the holes were not in line. When I unscrewed them they have ignored the fixing plate holes and drilled they the metal boot to install it.
One already has signs of rust. It's just lazy and not hard to use the original ones.

What is the best remedy please?

Take it back to the dealer, point at the new holes in your nice new car metal work and ask when they want to book it into their body shop, at their cost, for repair.

It's second hand. Does that change anything?

Nothing should ever surprise me, but that is special.

Ah, that's a lot more difficult to resolve

Why they've done that I don't know

Judging by the dirt and the rust the supplying dealer hasn't done that

You could clean back the rust, paint and seal the holes up but I'd push them to repair it as it could get worse especially hidden behind the plate.
Chances of them doing it are very slim though.

It seems a common thing to do.

Hard to prove but obviously done by whichever dealers name in on the bottom of that number plate.

I had 4x lovely self tappers holding the front plate straight into the front bumper on the m3 frown

Buy a pot of rust treatment from Halfords (or similar), put the private plate on, forget about it.

When you eventually move the car on make sure you use the proper mounting holes for the number plate..

Thanks all. The dealer is coming back to me. No doubt they fitted it as new plates made up.

On the front there is one set of existing holes from the original and then thiers. Just sloppy
.

On top of it being into the metal why did they do it off center. I've just added it to a long list of problems.

They fixed the ac and failed to refit of the decorative trim which then flew off. Glue over the paintwork where they tried to glue it on. Indicator loose and bumper not refitted correctly
