Washing the car in the rain
Discussion
Did a 1,000 mile round trip over the Easter Weekend. Drove from Kent to Brum to collect Vikingette1, then to Manchester to collect Vikingette2, onto Leeds, York, Sheffield, Halifax, Blackpool, Southport etc to top them up with clothes, make up, toiletries etc and the result was a very muddy and dirty family Passat, even with 3 days of good weather.
With the weather forecast being rain for most of this week (although it has improved), I took the decision to clean the car in the morning on Easter Monday. The rain was a plus. It stopped the gel on the alloy wheel cleaner from drying out and I could wash the whole car before jetwashing it as the rain kept it nice and moist. I even had time to clean the underside of the car and the fabric wheelarches for 5 mins each before giving the car a final rinse.
Finished off with Turtle Wax Sealant Shine spray whcih you can use wet. It's actually easier cleaning the exterior of a car in the rain.

Yeah I’ve done it a few times after the car has been rained on using the theory that prolonged wetting softens the dirt and make it an easier job. Have always waited until the rain has stopped though.
Yes, it’s a job for between showers.Rain shower: soaks car
Dry period: wash the rain-soaked car
Rain shower: rinses the car.
It’s the only way to wash a car!
