Hi all,

I’ve managed to pick up a pretty big chip, unbelievably in the couple of mm space that the PPF doesn’t cover. I’m hoping that this is something that a smart repair/chips away type place could quite easily repair however:

a) it looks to be really quite deep
b) it’s right on the edge of the PPF

Does anybody have any ideas as to how straightforward or not this will be? Is it likely that panel will need the PPF redone?

Thanks!

I would imagine it will need the whole panel swapping again but best to talk to the people that applied the PPF.

A good PPF install should have covered that edge.

Whilst the PPF should have covered the edges properly, just don't worry.

Either DIY it or get a "chippy" to do it, 2-3mm? It'll be invisible.

Be thankful it didn't crack your headlight and if it is really irking you then be even more thankful that if the this is the worst that life can throw at you then you are winning. yes

Thanks all for the responses. I agree, the PPF should have covered that edge but to be honest, there’s been so many other issues with the whole PPF process that I was content to leave those areas as is thinking that a decent stone chip would never happen on that tiny area. I honestly can’t believe the size of it - I’ve never had a big chunk of paint flake off like that. Hopefully it can just be touched in but if it’s notice or then it will drive me nuts so might need to be something a bit more in depth. I’ll let you guys know the result and the outcome…

So a bit of an update should anybody end up with similar in the future! Local Porsche approved bodyshop quoted… £1850 to fix it - ouch!! That was basically for a full respect of that panel and reapplication of the PPF - it looks like the chip has flaked a tiny bit of paint under the PPF so they would have had to remove that. So for now it’s a DIY attempt. Chippex kit arrived today and I’ve done the first couple of layers. I’ll update tomorrow with a couple of pics in daylight!
